First, he simmers pork bones, herbs and other ingredients to make a big pot of stock. That becomes his base stock in which the Founder boss cooks his bak kut teh. The result is a soothing, light peppery soup with a very subtle flavour of Chinese herbs. The owner calls his restaurant Founder because he came up with the recipe himself. Many Taiwanese and Hong Kong stars have come to love it. One wall of the restaurant is filled with huge pictures of the boss posing with the likes of singer Fei Yuqing, boybands like 5566 and actor Andy Lau.
My family and I tried the food on 8 Oct 2007; what we felt was that the soup was very peppery and quite a bit of MSG coz we felt so thirsty after the meal. We ordered 2 bowls of Bah Kut Teh, 1 bowl of pig’s stomach, 1 plate of salted vegetables, 1 plate of pig’s trotters, 1 plate of you tiao and 3 bowls of rice and it came up to S$26.40. Not that ex and we even got a refill of the soup.
